Jeroen Demoen [Yeroon The moon]

About Jeroen Demoen.

Jeroen is a Sakarya, Turkey based artist. He was born in 1972 in the beautiful city of Gent, Belgium.  Named after the great Jeroen, Hieronymus Bosch.

He studied some art at St.Lucas Gent in Belgium but was to restless at that time and went on a different path… studying tourism just for the love of travelling.

So he traveled a lot and finally ended up in Turkey in 1994 where he has been a designer of infant plush toys for over 20 years. Nine years ago he met the art of painting on water and found what he was searching for.

Painting on water or marbling, Ebru in Turkish, Suminagashi in Japanese is an ancient artform where you put a mixture of soil paint and ox gall on water so it floats… after which you transfer it to paper, fabric or other materials. Ancient in Turkey means heavily traditional which he can but won’t do. He prefers to break the boundaries of what is excepted and bring a new sort of “ebru” to life…

He has lived in Istanbul for a few years but finally preferred to live in a quiet village. His art is inspired by the surrounding nature and memories from the past for a better future…
